The Office of Research Support (ORS) plays a vital role in supporting research activities in the NHG Cluster and in facilitating collaborations between our institutions and partners. ORS is instrumental in facilitating and enabling research in the cluster that has impact on patients’ care and delivery.

Today, in order to keep up with the changing healthcare and research landscape, especially in light of the development of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), we reaffirm our commitment to constantly improve and enhance our research support services to our institutions.

These services comprise of:

Research Manpower Development

The Research Manpower Development Unit (RMDU) of the NHG Research & Development Office (RDO) supports the development of clinician-scientists and researchers in NHG through the development of research career programmes and organisation of educational platforms and training courses. The unit also supports publicity of NHG research through various platforms including the NHG Research e-Newsletter “e-Catalyst”, which showcases NHG research and researchers.

Grant Administration and Management

The Grant Administration & Management Unit administers and manages various intramural grant schemes. The unit also manages joint grants with other institutions such as KTPH and NTU. The NHG-KTPH Small Innovation Grant (SIG) I, NTU-NHG Innovative Seed Grant (ISG), NHG Clinician Leadership in Research (CLR), NHG Investigator Clinician (IC) Track and NHG Clinician Scientist Career Scheme (CSCS) were administered and managed by ORS.

Research Informatics

The Research Informatics (RI) Unit provides information technology (IT) support for two of our key applications, Research Online Administration & Management and Central Clinical Research Database to help researchers’ manage information research processes more efficiently.

Industry Liaison and Partnership

Leveraging on our cluster’s research strength, this unit promotes collaborations and partnership with industry players, academic institutions and others such as regulatory agencies.

Legal Review and Support

The Legal Review & Support Unit provides legal advice and opinion pertaining to research agreements such as Clinical Trial Agreements (CTA), Research Collaborative Agreements (RCA), and Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) etc. This unit plays a critical role to facilitate timely initiation of clinical trials and research collaborations with local and international partners such as the pharmaceutical multi-national companies. It also advises on Intellectual Property(IP) matters.

Project Management and Research Support Personnel

From FY2012, ORS will provide support in research project management as well as provision of other research personnel such as account manager, research coordinator and biostatistics consultants with the aim of shortening the project start up time and improving quality of grant applications and publications.
