Education in NHG

At NHG, education has always played a pivotal role in our pursuit to deliver the best possible care to our patients and the community we work and live in. There are three major areas of focus:

  • Graduate Medical Education (GME) through NHG-AHPL Residency;
  • Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), specifically as the principal clinical partner of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine); and
  • Education capability and capacity development

NHG is involved in undergraduate medical education for all three medical schools in Singapore, graduate medical education and furthering education of healthcare professionals.

Our educators’ dedication and commitment to nurturing the healthcare professionals of tomorrow continue to inspire many young clinicians to aim for excellence in cost-effective healthcare, education and research.

The NHG Education Development Office:

  • Assists each professional group in establishing a framework for graduate professional education to ensure quality outcome.
  • Ensures and improves the quality of clinical training (for both undergraduate and postgraduate, and professional groups) in NHG institutions, through resourcing, governance and regular reviews.

With the changes in the clinical training landscape, e.g. Residency Programmes and the need to train more nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals, the NHG Teaching Awards for Postgraduate Year Ones (PGY1s) was initiated in 2011. New awards for various professional groups (Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health Services) are in the pipeline.
