Innovation has been identified as the primary driver for economic and healthcare transformation. In Singapore, several efforts have been implemented to promote an innovative culture in this small nation. In response to this growing trend, healthcare communities are building up their capabilities and putting in resources to inculcate an innovative culture within their communities to drive ideas/solutions to meet clinical needs.

With the vision of "Adding Years of Healthy Life", the National Healthcare Group (NHG) ceaselessly searches for better and innovative ways to improve the delivery of healthcare to the population. Leveraging on cutting-edge technologies and expertise from partners, NHG has collaborated with a myriad of organisations in many areas of healthcare through the NHG Centre for Medical Technologies & Innovations (CMTi). Some outcomes from these efforts have been scaled up and translated into commercial products/services accessible to patients both locally and worldwide. This is made possible with the strong innovation culture which NHG has built over the years and its collaborative approach in seeking technological solutions with partners from the industries and Institute of Higher Learnings (IHLs).

Previously known as "Clinical Innovation Committee", NHG CMTi was renamed in 2017 to support the drive of MedTech innovations within the cluster. NHG CMTi plays a pivotal role in facilitating the co-development projects with partners and works closely with government agencies such as Enterprise Singapore (ES), Economic Development Board (EDB) and National Healthcare and Innovation Centre (NHIC), to develop implementable solutions for clinical problem statements.
